A few nights ago we started this series off with a high overview of what this feature will entail. Now we get to jump in the deep end of the pool and get started. A key part of the internet that is becoming more relevant with each passing year and website is community. A smart move on Facebook’s part was looking at community from varies angles and finding a unique way to connect them all together. Global ties with local connections. That’s one way to look at the community on Facebook. I can connect with any of my friends all round the world, but at the same time my best connections are local through my school and city network. All the marketplace ads and events notifications I get are local which makes them more relevant to me and my peers.
This is one area that a lot of sites are having problems with over all. They have a hard time connecting people together and making things relevant on many levels for them. Facebook has found a way to do this and not make it overly complicated. This is one reason Facebook is succeeding over MySpace and other social network right now. They have allowed me to build a community of personal and professional friends online and have relevant information that I want available to me.
Continuing with this series of blog posts, I will address the other key elements, which are infrastructure and money, that is positioning Facebook to become the next social gaming platform. I’ll look at Kongregate as well as what the next killer gaming application might look like. If you agree or disagree or mabye have a comment or question, please feel free to leave them in the comment section.
