Yesterday I shared part 1 of my piece on what I thought it took to launch a brand within Facebook. Today I wanted to expand on that and dig a bit deeper. Planning will be key for both your long-term and short-term success. You may not see results right way, but if you stick with your plan, you should see them sooner rather then later (within a month on Facebook). If you simple launching an application, then I would give you a week to know if you’re going to be successful with your application or not.

You need to tended to it at least a couple, if not 4 or 5 times, during the week. What I mean by this is that you need to see what people are liking about your initiative and what they don’t like. By being there on a semi-daily bases you are going to form a better relationship with your community. This is going to help you know what part might not be working for some people whether it’s a computer or browser issue. It’s all about checking in and making sure everything is ok. You can never be to concerned about what is happening with your brand online.

You need to keep a constant eye on everything and notice any slight change in your environment. This goes back to reason one and being concerned about your brand online. The minute there is a shift, good or bad, you need to know about it and especial if its bad. There is no time to site back and hope things die down. Look at what happened when Facebook added the new news feed last fall, things went bad quickly and didn’t let up until Facebook took responsibility and said it made a mistake. You sometimes have to roll with the punches but being proactive and not reactive will help you in the long haul.

plant Life You need to keep adding new reasons for the plants to grow and thrive in their environment. You wouldn’t just plant your garden and walk away. You are always adding fresh water, soil and making sure the plants are getting fresh sunlight. You might add nutritious soil and new plants as time and room allows. You will hopefully do the same thing with your brand. After your initial launch, you’ll want to add new features and fix bugs and make your product better with refinement. Always give your users a reason to keep coming back to you.

You need to make sure your plans can co-habitat with each other. Not all plants and life on this planet can co-habitat with each other. This comes down to QA. Anything new that you add to your online initiative, you need to make sure that can coexist with everything that you did in the plant. Having the wrong plant life or feature in your plan could mean disaster. You can’t always plan for this, but if you are following tip one and two, then you’ll know about this happening sooner rather then later.

Launching a brand within Facebook, or in Second Life for that matter, isn’t easy. It’s a crazy world out there and with an always on, 24/7 connected world you can never be to sure what is always happening. But if you plan, listen to your audience and use the four tips above, you’ll be doing fine.
